Reverberatory furnaces of rectangular cross section. The long wall is completely open with one or more doors to facilitate its loading, cleaning and bath handling. It may be used for melting or holding of liquid metal and be equipped with porous plugs, side wells, metal stirrers and other auxiliary devices. In melting furnaces high melting rates with very low specific consumptions are obtained using regenerative burners. They can be static with optional remote casting control or tiltable.
